With E3 pretty much around the corner we will look at some games that should be announced.Last year we looked at the Top Ten Games That should Be Announced at E3 2010 (But most likely won’t) and although some were announced (Twisted Metal) others, with time, became announced (Duke Nukem Forever, new Wii, Kingdom Hearts 3DS). So this time we thought we would dive into less recognized games and games that most likely will not be announced. Some return from last years Top Ten list and some are just completely random. Not everyone will agree. Keep in mind that most of these, if not all, are sequels and remakes. It doesn’t make sense to make a random game up, it has to have some history behind it. Also these games most likely will not be announced but that is the point of the list.
So keeping in tradition these are Top Ten Games That should Be Announced at E3 2011 (But most likely won’t).
10. Battletoads and Double Dragon HD

Really nothing yet about the Ninja Turtles-Frogs? Battletoads is one of the hardest game ever created and the newest Battletoads game (that I can remember) was Battletoads and Double Dragon. Hell, bring that back! Fans would love to play this game again. If possible make it HD not 3D. Imagine being able to play this over the PSN or Xbox Live? If there’s one thing we learned from Xbox Live it’s that playing with up to 16 people works well. The X-Men Arcade game has a staggering 6 people in a side scrolling beat-em-up. Battletoads and Double Dragon would have 5 people going at it. Keep the ability to “accidentally” hurt your team mates and create all new levels based on old levels (Contra 4 style). This would bring new fans to the series but at the same time make old fans happy.
9. Toejam and Earl 4 or HD

Toejam and Earl was a wacky game. When this game hit the Genesis, Rooster and I played this thing over and over…why? Because it was 2-player fun, along with the Random mode that kept the game varied every single time we played it. Bring this thing back on and allow online play. Not a remake to say but a new game. Toejam and Earl 3 tried this on the Xbox but it felt a little too different even if it was pretty much the same game. The humour felt forced and the inclusion of a new female character was not needed. Just polish them up hand out trophies/achievements, online play and keep random mode to keep the game different all the time. But do not bring back the girl. Let Toejam and Earl find their Rocket pieces again, make the levels bigger and brighter, bring back all the enemies from the previous games and do not modernize Toejam and Earl like once attempted in Toejam and Earl 3. Let them enjoy their funky ways.
8. New Super Mario Bros. 3

Super Mario Bros. 3 is probably one of the best 2D Mario games. All the unique power ups and crazy fun levels, I say it’s about time they remake this classic for all the goober kids who haven’t experienced it. Make it in the same style as New Super Mario bros. Wii and you got yourself a great game. A fan-made title called New Super Mario bros 3 got the idea right but unfortunately because it uses the same engine as NSMB all the great power ups are missing, that and because in order to actually play the game you need a certain “card” for your Nintendo DS. Add new content along with more power-ups for Project Café (Or Virtual Console), hell charge for the feather and extra goodies we will get it. After the crappy release of Super Mario Bros. All Stars we all thought they would have re-re-made the games, but instead they just grabbed an old game and wrapped it something shiny. New Super Mario Bros. 3 would change all that. Technically it would be the third in the series too. New Super Mario Bros. (DS), that’s one. New Super Mario Bros. (Wii), that’s two. New Super Mario Bros. 3 that’s three. Put this bugger on the Virtual Console this way you can play it on both the 3DS and the upcoming Project Café.
7. Zombies Ate My Neighbors
One of the funnest (Not a word) games on the Sega Genesis, Zombies Ate My Neighbors has become a cult classic. This game was wacky and just bizarre. It’s also very 90′s. You play as Zeke or Julie and they’re both pretty rad in their early 90′s sort of way, and in of the best co-op games you go around saving your neighborhood from the attack of Zombies. At the time Zombies in video games were rare, now they’re everywhere! So it makes sense to bring this game back, keep it in the HD/2.5D visuals and makes the games score fully orchestrated, the music is probably some of the best Genesis/SNES music ever. Give the ability to play this online with a friend and update some of the humor, but yet keeping the characters the same. For some reason though Zombies Ate My Neighbors is being turned into a Motion Picture. Will it fail? Most likely. Here’s a better idea instead of turning this into a movie, how bout just giving us a new game and we’ll call it even…trampolines and all.
6. Oddworld Abe’s Return

I love the Oddworld series. From the 2D platformer to the 3D adventure. The characters are all lovable and you feel emotion for every Mudokon that dies. Bring this baby back in 2.5D but include not only Abe but Munch and Stranger as well. Have some sections made specifically for Abe (guiding Mudokons) which will be the main game, some for Munch in which you must use your wheelchair in order to travel through bizarre stages, this would be the puzzle section and some for Stranger, in which you shoot your way through a bunch of baddies like Megaman, this would be the action section. You got yourself one varied hell of a game. Using the same mechanics as in Munch’s Odyssey you may switch characters at any time and must work together to help each other out. Somewhere in the background you control Abe until he gets stuck, then switch to Munch who presses a lever that opens a door to Stranger. Let him kill a baddie and the door opens for Abe. Pure-genius…and very close to fan-fiction so I will stop writing about it.
5. Earthbound (Mother 3)

Why on earth has this game not been released yet (In North America)? After playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl we all thought that this was a for sure thing, I mean why else would you have the characters in the game to an audience that probably has no idea who they are. Everyone went up in arms about Kid Icarus but no one spoke about Earthbound. Hopefully they announce this game for the Nintendo 3DS and it will be in the same graphical style as Harvest Moon. For those who never heard of Earthbound, Earthbound is basically Final Fantasy meets The Peanuts and that sounds like it would be great. You know you just have to send it our way. Iy has been done before apparently but didn’t do so well. Let’s re-release all the Mothers into one and give a new audience a taste of everything. I’m sure they will all enjoy it.
4. Super Mario Bros and Sonic’s Adventure

With the new Nintendo console being announced isn’t it about time we had a new Super Mario bros game? But I mean a new Super Mario Bros. game. No Galaxy, no 64. A side-scrolling 2D adventure, even better put Sonic in there too. With some levels being meant for Sonic and some for Mario. How great would it be to have Sonic running through the Mushroom Kingdom or Mario exploring Emerald Hill? They have already been in games together (Olympics and Smash Bros) but still no adventure game yet. Licensing is definitely not a problem here because they’ve appeared together many time. Even better idea would be to play as both at the same time…now hear me out. With Project Café’s controller apparently having a screen in it, how bout in the screen we play as Sonic (or Mario) and on the controller’s screen we play as the other person. Both universes are being played at the same time and Sonic and Mario don’t understand what is happening and can’t see each other. But we can. It’s about time these two put their differences aside and went on a wild ride together that and it would be a very neat way to show what Project Cafe is capable of.
3. Fatal Frame 5
In 2008, somewhere in Japan, Fatal Frame 4 was released for the Wii. Being a huge fan of the series I awaited the release here in Canada. No dice. Fatal Frame 4 was never released in North America for some reason; I guess the colour green (or purple and pink in Canada’s case) scares them. Yes, our money really is that colour. So without Fatal Frame 4 being released here in North America how bout just announcing Fatal Frame V. Do not release it on the Wii though, release it on the 360 or PS3 (or both) and let the HD ghosts scare the crap out of me all over again. Fatal Frame was/is one of the scariest games I have ever played and bringing all that over to this generation’s console would be amazing. Silent Hill tried it with Homecoming and it was…well it was there. Resident Evil did the same with Resident Evil 5 and it was…well it was also there. Don’t do what those games did. Do not change the circumstances. Just an Asian Girl in a freaky mansion looking for her dog/brother/sister/mom/dad/cat/self, equipped only with a camera. The mansion has some freaky backstory and boom- instant success. Oh but of course you fear success as much as I fear ghosts.
2. Final Fantasy VII remake

Yes I know that it would take more than 40 years to get this game together . But if they announce it now then 39 years from now we will finally have one of the most wanted RPG titles remade. Goodbye Popeye arms hello Advent Children graphics.
Regardless of how long it might take to make this game, Square-Enix are pretty much sitting on a gold mine, all they have to do is announce it. Not being that huge of a fan of the Final Fantasy series I have to admit I really enjoyed VII. Recently I tried playing it again on the PS3 and the graphics are just…wow…just wow. But after watching Advent Children it is possible to bring those graphics into this game. I mean the idea and characters are already made just replace the original with them. There is no re-design needed since they’re already redesigned. I understand that it is a lot of work but after Final Fantasy XIII it’s time for a true game. I mean if they want money this is what they’ll announce. I know they must be tired of hearing about this game being re-released, but to be honest. You started the rumor and the idea not us.
1. Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat
Capcom characters have been known to do cross overs with other series’. Capcom vs. Tatsunoko, Marvel Vs. Capcom, that’s really all I can think of. Still if there was ever one crossover game that everyone wanted it was Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat. No one asked for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, but we got that; yet everyone is asking for Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Hell even Ed Boon said “In a perfect world, to me, I still think it would be cool as hell to see Ryu from “Street Fighter” and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat,”.
Obviously due to various reasons this has not happened but it would really be the game of the year. For years you’ve had either fans of the Street Fighter series, and fans of Mortal Kombat. both games have been up to date with the current gen consoles and both games have been doing very well for themselves. We would just love to finally have Ryu going at it with Scorpion, to finally rest all those drunken nights of arguments as to who would win and why. Then again we all know that Scorpion would win…obviously.
Games that didn’t make the cut
Obviously we could have pulled a lot more games out of our asses but we figured these ten were the best. Here are some that were cut.
Blades of Steel HD Final Fantasy 15 Left 4 Dead 3 Lego Spider-Man Alan Wake 2 GTA V Mirror’s Edge 2 Half Life 2: Episode 3 Splatterhouse 2
Agree? Disagree? What are some games you hope that gets announced? Leave a comment below!
