With Dead Rising 2 just around the corner and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero just released we would like to compare Frank West to Chuck Greene and see if Chuck Greene is a worthy protagonist. This comes in their story, their looks, and their creativity. Is Chuck Greene good enough, to be the next Frank West. Frank West has since become the Chuck Norris of video games and he’s even been featured as a hidden character in Tatsunoko Vs Capcom. Can Chuck Greene prove himself worthy?
Reason for being there
Frank West
Frank West is a photojournalist on a mission, after hearing that the town of Willamette,Colorado was sealed off by Police and the government he decided to go and figure out what’s going on. Frank West meets a bunch of survivors in the mall and finds out the mall is infected with Zombies.
Chuck Greene
Chuck Greene is a former motocross champion, because the story thus far in Dead Rising 2 isn’t clear yet I’m going to assume Chuck is on his way to show off his talents. In which case we have to take the Case Zero route as to why he’s where he is. In Case Zero we learn that Chuck Greene is with his daughter Katey who is infected, Chuck Greene has Zombrex which can delay the infection if giving within 8 hours. Fortunately for him he has a lot in the jeep; unfortunately for him his jeep gets stolen forcing him in having to find Zombrex to save his daughter.
Winner: Chuck Greene
Frank West is their because of his own selfishness, if he wasn’t so worked up on his career he would have been safe and sound. Frank West does state “I’ve covered wars you know”, which proves that he just doesn’t care about those around him, but rather his career. Chuck Greene on the other hand gets screwed over, and is doing all this for one, and one reason only, to save his Daughter….d’aw

Frank West is a normal guy, not built like a tank and not toned either. He’s scruffy and kind of the chubby side. His hair is normal and his style is classy. His style is very laid back, with his shirt being unbuttoned to give that “yeah I’m cool” look
Chuck Greene
So far from what we’ve witnessed in Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, Chuck Greene shows off that he’s a former motocross by not only wearing that very, very, very bright yellow shirt, but also he’s driving a jeep which is hardcore. He’s not build but he is skinny and a little muscular. His bright shirt indicates he loves the attention since people can see him from a mile away. He seems more uptight as well.
Winner: Frank West
Let’s be honest most gamers aren’t in the BEST shape (there are exceptions). Mostly we’re kind of flabby and kind of on the pale side due to no sunlight. Frank West’s look is more relatable then Chuck’s. We like to be classy but we like to be ourselves, and usually we don’t wear what we do literally on our sleeves like Chuck does. Yes we’re biased.
Creativity
Frank West
Frank West is a regular guy as stated before, but his use of what’s around him can get very creative. Sure a frying pan is just a frying pan, hitting any old zombie in the head is alright. Heating up the frying pan and placing it on the zombies face for a while. That’s creative! Simply hitting a zombie with a shower head isn’t going to suffice, but plugging it into a zombies head to have blood shower out and then taking a picture. That’s class.
Chuck Greene
Chuck Greene like Frank West is in the same situation, he’s not a karate artists but he can “fix” things. “Don’t worry, daddy can fix anything”, Chuck says to Katey. Chuck loses a little bit of points for redundant killings such as the shower head and the sledgehammer. But what he does do that Frank West doesn’t is combing such weapons. Taping a chainsaw and scissors to boxing gloves to give a little more “oomph” is very creative. Putting nails onto a propane tank, then blowing it up to not only hurt and burn the zombie but also to have nails fly every where is creative.
Winner: Chuck Greene
Frank West would grab both nails and a bat; he would throw the nails and swing with the bat. Chuck Greene mixes the two elements to make a better weapon. Frank West would put a bucket on a Zombie’s head, leaving he or she blind and stumbling around, which is still amusing but there’s not “Oomph” Chuck Green would put the bucket on the head and then drill through it having the head explode inside. There’s the “Oomph”
So there you have it Chuck Greene is the winner when it comes to being a protagonist. As much as we here at paranerds.com love Frank West, Chuck Greene is a good guy to take over the franchise. Although his looks is the only problem, everything else fits the pattern. Frank West will always be number one in our hearts, just like Kevin from Home Alone will always be the kid from Home Alone. Frank West is the original bad ass. All things must change but Chuck Greene will do a great job in defeating zombies. Now if only Frank West makes a little cameo in Dead Rising 2, THAT would be the ultimate Dead Rising.

well, firstly i’ll say good article, however, even though i am a gamer, and don’t look anything like him, i do prefer the look of chuck to frank. i like playing as a badass, and plus, playing as chuck is like playing as your own personal, more creative chuck norris, and lets face it, who doesn’t love chuck norris.
Am I the only one who thinks Chuck looks like he used to belong to a boy band? His hair seems like it’s frosted or something and it just reminds me of the 90′s Justin Timberlake of some sort. I love Frank, I’m not really sure how to interpret it but I just prefer him other than Frank. although this article is a little old, I am excited that Frank is coming back and with co-op you can be him, you know who I’m choosing.

No one beats Chuck “Norris” Greene. I know, Frank West has a place but Chuck… Chuck kiked him out to put get some space for his daughter. If Chuck saw his Helicopter crash, he would be: “I don’t mind how many Zombies I have to kill, it’s for my daughter.” And that my friends… No matter how many wars you’ve covered, you can’t beat a guy like that. And come on, a badass wearing a yellow jacket. That’s hardcore.
all in all I enjoyed this article, although I am a huge fan of Frank west and I’ve gotten to know him over the past four years, I believe chuck is ready for the take over. P.S. Frank west will make a cameo in Dead Rising 2 with the “Case West” DLC.

I enjoyed the DLC, Dead Rising 3 should have another protagonist but reference to the past titles.
First off really nice article i think differently though i really like chuck but i love frank sure frank may seem more selfish however chuck is completely hung over his daughter katey wich I understand shes his everything she his only daughter his only family he has left but she the only person he cares about if you play through DR1 and DR2 in dead rising 1 say a person is about to do something that will get them ate frank trys to stop them for example the guy who was in the gun shop when you beat him he ran out and got ate but frank tryed to stop him. in DR2 i failed to see chuck try to save anyone except for katey and he gave t.k. zombrex but frank would have done that and maybe even more. yes frank may seem hung up in his job but think of it this way if he wasn’t the military would have destroyed everything. leaving no proof but Frank had proof in his camera so that makes him even less selfish by telling the world the truth. In conclusion Frank West if the winner.
