The word “compelling” apparently gets thrown around gaming a lot these days (though to be fair I’ve seen more people make fun of the word compelling than use it) but the word that I would use to describe Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is…rewarding. As a game it is proof of all the sayings that our parents used when we were growing up in order to illustrate that with work and patience comes reward.

There is one game from the PS3 launch title range that my friends and I have experienced many hours of enjoyment from, that game is Resistance: Fall of Man. Even 5 1/2 years into the lifespan of the PS3 it remains one of my favourite titles for the platform.

Does  a ps3 game awarding me a trophy for kissing enough men make that game my pimp? I’ve never had to wonder that before when playing a game but it is something that came up while playing the second level of Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock. If you want to know why then you will just have to check the game out for yourself.

Last weekend, if you were living in the UK, you might have known that the London MCM Expo took place  featuring the usual gathering of cosplayers, comics salesmen many Doctor Who fans and enough katanas to equip a small army. Par for the course when it comes to gatherings of nerds. Amongst the stalls selling replicas of film weapons, out of print comics, and areas set up by independent artists there were a number of promotions for soon to be released video games and films.

With a chance to get a first impression of some major releases, Gareth and I went to investigate. Continue reading »

I’ve never come across a game quite like Crash Time 4: The Syndicate before. My experience with car games in the past has been limited to a couple of racing games and the Die Hard 3 game. Crash Time 4: The Syndicate puts you in the role of two police officers in Germany who work for the autobahn police. You must use a variety of methods throughout the game to take down the titular syndicate that include (but are not limited to) setting up speed cameras, making arrests and meeting contacts for more information (usually earned by doing them a favour, think the Fable 3 friendship quests but applied to driving).

Before I start, when I say DC and Marvel I mean the companies as a whole. That is why you will hear me talk about X-men and Spiderman even though Marvel studios didn’t make those movies.

Many people (myself included) are looking forward to the Dark Knight Rises. It was made by Chris Nolan, a man who has never disappointed us before and it is the concluding part of the trilogy he has created over the past decade. However if DC really wants to compete with Marvel on a cinematic front Dark Knight Rises is not that important in the grand scheme of things, the Man of Steel, however is.

When I discuss the story there will be some spoilers in this review.

It seems that despite having been a gamer since I was five years old it seems that I am still able to be naive when it comes to gaming. Case in point I was surprised when Soul Calibur V was announced. Soul Calibur IV seemed to end the series, it even told the story of how the swords came into being and had players fight against their creator. Well I was wrong and now I get to discover if that was a good thing or not.
