As Christmas fast approaches you might be thinking of what kind of game to get your loved one. What games are worth purchasing especially if you can’t think of specific titles that are worth the money. This list compiles the best games to purchase for someone that not only offers the main game but extra content and games.  Instead of getting one thing you get more, that definitely makes the purchase feel like a steal. This is when you get extra stuff for free on a disc and with no additional  purchase necessary. Basically this list compiles the best game compilations and best games that offer you more, this is the Top ten games that give you more bang for your buck.

***Editor’s note***

We are in no way associated with Amazon.com, nor are we getting any money for this. I just wanted to make it easier for you to purchase these items if needed.

10. XBLA + Avatar clothes+ Gamer pictures

Notice the clothing we are wearing are free

Sure XBLA has some great games, some are more pricy then they should be. But when you get a game and it unlocks MORE, it’s a win win deal. Not only do you get the game you purchased but sometimes extra content. I’m not talking about achievements nor online multiplayer but I mean things that some people pay for. Example gamer pics and avatar clothing, two things I will never purchase on Xbox. Here are a few examples of games that are good to begin with that come with extra stuff.

Earthworm Jim HD (comes with avatar clothing)

‘Splosion Man (Avatar Clothing + Gamer Pics)

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (Avatar Clothing)

Sonic’s Adventure (Avatar Clothing)

and there are a lot more.  This should be a routine thing considering that some avatar clothing is surprisingly expensive and really not worth it. But when you play a game and the words Avatar Reward appears it makes you feel like you actually got more then you should have.

9.Super Mario All Stars Wii

This would have normally been number 1, but due to the lack of effort put into this compilation it is hard to recommend. Although you do get a sound track. Super Mario All Stars Wii is good for those who never played (they exist) the original 3 Mario games. You get Super Mario 1, 2, 3 & Lost Levels. Why Super Mario World is not included is still a mystery. The games are remade to give them a polished look…in 1993. Still you get 4 games, a booklet with concept art, a CD filled with the SFX and music and it IS the 25th anniversary Limited Edition, which is kind of neat.  I kind of wished they remade this game in the Pseudo 2D/3D like New Super Mario Bros was. But that is not the case this is the same compilation from the SNES with no touch ups at all, still it’s a nice purchase as a gift. You may purchase this here.

8. Wii Play + Wii Controller

Ok so this is a little bit of a cheat, but if you can get something for free with something that isn’t that good, at least you’re getting two things for the price of one. Wii Play is a terrible compilation of mini games BUT it comes with a Wii remote. The games are not that interesting and when I originally got this game I played the compilation maybe once, where the only game I did come back for was the Duck Hunt-esque game. A controller is usually around $50 and a game is usually around $50. You get both for around $50, win-win.  Hell because of this extra it was one of the top selling Wii games. Plus if you are purchasing this item for someone who just got a Nintendo Wii it’s worth it. Atleast you get to try what the Wii was supposed to offer in this compilation along with a controller. You may purchases it HERE

7. Contra 4

Here’s a great game that offers more bang for your buck; Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS. Not only is this game very, very worth it on its own but it’s a hard mother. Contra 4 looks fantastic on the Nintendo DS with homage’s to previous Contra games. But not only do you get the fantastic Contra 4 but if you complete the game (which I still have not done) you unlock Concept art, screen shots, comic books an interview…but that’s not all. If (like me) you are into  retro games not only do you get Contra 4 but you get the original Contra and Super C both originally for the NES. Damn that is good. All three games are ridiculously hard giving you lots of replay value and are a joy of fun. Being able to Play Contra on the Nintendo DS is great as well considering before this you can only play it on the Wii and XBLA.  You may buy it HERE.

6. The Sly Collection

A lot of people haven’t played Sly Cooper originally for the PlayStation 2. But if you haven’t played it you missed a great platformer. Fortunately for you all 3 games have been compiled on a single Blue-Ray disk in HD and with trophies enabled (for you Trophy whores).  So not only do you get Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, but you also get Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. This was a fun underrated series that deserves more love then what it got. Fortunately now you can enjoy it all.
You may buy it HERE.

5. Splatterhouse

Splatterhouse hasn’t been doing so well among critics, although we gave the game a 7.5/10. Personally I thought it was a great game and it was just a fun hack and slash, but what really was the selling point for me was the inclusion of not only Splatterhouse (2010) but the original 3 Splatterhouse games in their great uncensored ways .  You’re basically getting 4 games for the price of one. The original Splatterhouse games are hard and not that good, but if you grew up with them they are great to try finally finishing.  Unlocking in not hard to do either just play the game and every 4  chapters you unlock the original games one at a time, so If you’ve never played the originals here you go.

4. Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection

Now THIS is compilation Mario. Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection offers A LOT of bang for your buck not only is this compilation very cheap but it actually offers good games along with concept art, interviews and even games for the Sega Master. Again if you are retro game lover this game is definitely for you. Some of these games can be purchased on XBLA/PSN/Wii where Sonic 1, 2 and 3 all together come close to about $30. But those are included in the compilation along with Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D Blast. You also get Vectorman 1 and 2 and Golden Axe 1, 2, 3.  This is a great compilation and a great gift for anyone who wants to get more; it actually feels like a steal especially for $20.  You get 40 + Games and here they are:

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Beyond Oasis, Bonanza Bros., Columns, Comix Zone, Decap Attack, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, Dynamite Headdy, Ecco the Dolphin, Ecco: The Tides of Time, ESWAT: City Under Siege, Fatal Labyrinth, Flicky, Gain Ground, Golden Axe, Golden Axe II, Golden Axe III, Kid Chameleon, Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, Ristar, Shining Force, Shining Force II: Ancient Sealing, Shining in the Darkness, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, Streets of Rage, Streets of Rage 2.

Plus more. It is a lot of fun and a lot of the games I never heard of a fun as well. The only downside is no online multiplayer but still fun to play with two people on a couch. Just like the old days.  Buy it HERE.

3.Capcom Platinum Hits Triple Pack

You know what game was amazing and frustrating? Dead Rising. You know what other game was alright and frustrating? Devil May Cry 4. You know what else? Lost Planet …nothing clever for that one. BUT you can now get all three games in a compilation for the same price. Assuming you don’t own any of these games or the person you’re purchasing this for doesn’t have these it’s definitely worth it.  Dead Rising on its own is already a fun game and Devil May Cry 4 is really fast paced and action paced and Lost Planet ….well…you can play online!  This is rare to make a compilation with games for the current consoles and Capcom is the first to do so. Good on you Capcom…good on you. Buy it HERE.

2. God of War Collection

I cannot recommend this game anymore then I already have.  Although Sly Cooper offers three games where as God of War Collection offers only two, God of War is a lot more fun than Sly Cooper, mostly due to the satisfying gore and satisfying levels. If you (like me) missed out on the original 2 God of War games now you can play both in HD with trophies enabled for about $30. This wouldn’t have done well if Sony didn’t take out their PS2 backwards compatibility but since they have this is acceptable. God of War Collection offers about 16 hours of gaming and the HD look really helps this time around. Everything is Remastered and all perdy looking.  The camera issues still exist but at least it looks sharper than it did before.  Also the story is very damn interesting and owning this then buying God of War III just looks damn nice on your shelf. Buy it HERE.

1. The Orange Box

I tried not to put The Orange Box on this list, I really did, but you have to give credit where credit is due. The Orange Box is the best. Not only do you get 3 original games but you get 3 original GREAT games at a great price. Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal. Half Life 2 is a great game with a great storyline, I never played the original Half Life and was a little confused in Half Life 2 but it makes you care about the characters around you and makes you want to play Half Life just to get some back story. Half Life 2 already offers a large amount of game play with some unique puzzles and of course the Gravity gun, On top of this once you have completed Half Life 2 you already have Half Life 2: Episode 1 and Episode 2 on the disk. NO DLC needed it’s already part of the disc and already yours. That alone would have sold The Orange Box.  But nope you get more then that Team Fortress 2 a unique online multiplayer in which teams have games to play such as Capture the Flag and Defending. This could have easily been sold on its own but in The Orange Box, It’s just part of the package.

Yet there is one more game. Portal. Portal was one of those games that I didn’t know what to expect as I was about to try it. What you get is one of the most mind-boggling, first-person, puzzle games. Nothing I have ever seen before. Not only are the puzzles challenging and makes you look at things in a new way, but the story and the characters (although your character does not speak) are very interesting. Portal also gives us one of the most lovable characters ever in a game: GLaDOS. GLaDOS is kind of a bitch but in a sweet way, offering you a cake although the cake can be considered mystery (I’m not making a joke here). Portal was actually funny too with its dark humor all thanks to GLaDOS.  Plus one of the greatest songs of all time: Still Alive. The Orange Box definitely gives you more bang for your buck. You may purchases this fantastic cheap game HERE.
